On exam day (May) WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT20% • Inter-textual reading following by a written exercise, based on the core. • 300-400 word written response based on 3 sources with information from one of the core topics. • A maximum of 12 students may use those sources. • Sources: must be 300-400 words, written originally in the target language, not previously read in class. • 100 word rationale to introduce the assignment, state the aims and how the aims have been achieved. • Must be completed during school hours with teacher supervision. • Teacher must keep a hard copy of the sources & provide a brief written summary (with links) for submission to IB. • Students can use a paper dictionary/thesaurus, the IB subject guide, and the three sources. • Suggested time  3-4 hours (does not have to be in one sitting): read sources, write draft, final copy EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT (SL)  70% • PAPER 125% • 1h 30m • Based on the core • 4 written texts • Text-handling exercises On exam day (May) • PAPER 225% • 1h 30m • Based on the options • One writing exercise from a choice of 5 • 250-400 words In class BEFORE May

3. Throughout the year, documented and assessed by the teacher INDIVIDUAL ORAL20% This component is based on the options and is internally assessed by the teacher and externally moderated by the IB. Supervised preparation time (15 minutes) The student receives 2 previously unseen photographs with a title or caption, selected by the teacher. Each photograph is related to a different option studied in class. The student prepares a presentation on one of the photographs. Part 1: Presentation (3-4 minutes) The student describes the photograph and relates it to the option and the target culture(s). Part 2: Discussion (5-6 minutes) A discussion with the teacher based on the presentation follows. Discussion based on a topic from the other option studied may be introduced if that contributes to the interaction. INTERNAL ASSESSMENT (SL) 30% INTERACTIVE ORAL ACTIVITY10% Three interactive activities based on the core will be carried out in the classroom during the course and assessed by the teacher. One of these must be based on a listening activity. The highest of the three marks will be submitted as the final mark for the interactive oral.
