Captain Vancouver was born at Kings Lynn Norfolk, England, on June 22, 1757.
He was born wanting to be an explorer. He joined the navy when he was 13. He sailed with Captain James Cook to the West Coast in 1791.
He made maps of the coast of Nootka Sound, the Juan de Fuca Stait, and Vancouver island.
He sailed on his ship, the Discovery, to Nootka Sound. He arrived in this area in July 1776. He stayed for 4 years.
He died on May 10, 1798 in Petersham, England. Our City is named after him.
