About OSHCON • Free service for private Texas employers • A Workers’ Health and Safety program of DWC • 19 locations across Texas • Over 30 Safety and Health Consultants
About OSHCON • Focus in high hazard industries • No citations or fines • Voluntary employer participation • Funded by OSHA and State of TX • Separate from Federal OSHA enforcement
Consultation Process • Step 1: Request Contact OSHCON and request a consultation by telephone or online
Consultation Process • Step 2: On-Site Visit • Opening conference • Walk-through survey • Safety and health program assistance • Closing conference
Consultation Process • Step 3: Evaluation and Report • Information evaluation • Relevant research and/or sample analysis • Report with findings and recommendations
Consultation Process • Step 4: Correction of Serious Hazards • Employers must correct “imminent dangers” or “serious violations” of OSHA standards • List of hazards must be posted where employees can see it for 3 days or until corrected.
Your OSHCONConsultant WILL: • Help you recognize hazards • Suggest general approaches or options for solving problems • Identify other safety and health resources available if you need further assistance • Provide hands-on training for you and your employees
Your OSHCON Consultant WILL NOT: • Issue citations or penalties • Report violations to OSHA • Guarantee that your workplace will be free of citations if inspected by OSHA
SHARP • Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program • Exemption from Programmed OSHA Inspections • Initial exemption for one year • Subsequent renewals for two years (self-audit must be submitted to OSHCON after one year to verify continued eligibility)
SHARP Criteria • Work with OSHCON for at least one year • Have at least one year of injury/illness recordkeeping (OSHA logs) • Receive comprehensive OSHCON consultation • Be in a high hazard industry as defined by OSHA
SHARP Criteria • Have 250 or fewer employees per worksite and no more than 500 at all sites • Correct all identified hazards • Institute all elements of an exemplary safety and health program • Have DART and TRCR below the national industry average
