First Integrated Theme Park on the East Coast The Enchanted Forest was the first theme park on the East Coast, and the second in the country to Disneyland. Howard Harrison, Sr. wanted to create a place where storybook characters could come to life. (Framed photo currently in middle of exhibit) The Enchanted Forest has been in scenes from the movie “Cry Baby” and the TV show “Homicide”. (text from current panel about orphanage visit on the park’s first birthday) The Enchanted Forest was the first integrated theme park in the country. The competition of high-tech attractions forced the Enchanted Forest to close. The property was sold to JHP Development in 1988. Many of the park’s relics have been moved to Clark’s Elioak Farm. The park opened on August 15, 1955 and was open 7 days a week, in violation of the county’s blue laws which banned businesses from being open on Sundays. IN OUT Blocked by desk (postcards)
