WASH Cholera / AWD EP&R training Session 4.3 Practical session
Learning objectives By the end of the session the participants will be able to • conduct turbidity testing • prepare different strengths of chlorine solution • perform residual chlorine testing • demonstrate the use of most common HHWT methods used in cholera / AWD responses WASH cholera / AWD EP&R training
Practical Make a 1% chlorine solution (not more than 1 liter) Clean at least 6 (20 liter) buckets with the water you would like to test. Add in each bucket a different amount of chlorine (use a syringe); 1 ml, 1.5 ml, 2.ml, 2.5 ml and 5 ml (chlorine might have lost some strenght), use the aquatab for the last bucket. 4 After 30 minutes test residual chlorine by using a pooltester (rinse pooltester with water to be tested 3x and poor the water in the pooltester do not scoop it out!) 5 Add DPD1 (residual chlorine) and Phenol Red (PH) and read results.
