2006 Household Activity Survey • Two-Day Activity and Travel diaries • Households (4,700+) • Persons (10,500) • Trips (78,000+) • Follow-up Stated Preference Survey (900) • Transit mode choices/potential toll alternatives • Attitudinal questions • GPS Tracking of auto trips (220) • Objectives: • Develop a more complete assessment of current travel behavior • Identify key drivers of transit use among current and potential transit users • Provide comparison data/analysis to the 1999 and earlier surveys • Begin to define Transit Markets • Establish the foundation for building better “choice” models

UrbanSim Related Survey Questions • What year did you move into your current residence? • Is your residence owned or rented? • Do you live in a… SF, duplex, triplex, etc.? • How long have you lived at your current residence (i.e. are you a recent mover)?
How was the survey used in our models? • Movers subset = HLCM estimation • 1,677 Households moved during the previous 5 years • Workplace Location Choice Model / Work At Home Choice Model development • Individual’s labor force status, primary work location, home location
What to add or change? • What would support potential future model improvements? • Sample size • Larger? • Different stratification? (SF/MF split)? • New or restructured questions: • Instead of Why Chose Location – rank amenities of your new house, eg how important is having a large yard? Proximity to transit? Etc…How big of an effect does that weigh into your selection? • Distinguish between short-run and long-run decisions / choices • Information on rent or mortgage? (High non-response / refusal rates)
