“Have spark chamber – will travel” : visits to about 20 schools per year since 2002
Out and about with a spark chamberAt public meetings. Open days and at schools, the spark chamber provides a dramatic and flexible way of introducing our particle physics research.Adults and school pupils, young and old, are intrigued by the demonstration. • QuarkNet US basedso far, involving several national labs and over 300 schools. Cosmic rays detected by pairs of scintillators + GPS PC + Internet connection. We shall build two systems (DAQ cards from Fermilab): one for use in the Univ and one to take out to local schools.
