(you can add some more as you go along) You will notice that the oil will be at the bottom. 4. Then slowly, add 70 ml of 70% isopropyl alcohol until the solution reaches up to 200 ml. Stir gently. • Tip: pour the rubbing alcohol down the side of the flask for the alcohol to mix with less stirring. 5. After stirring, if the mineral oil bubbles sink immediately to the bottom then add 10 ml of water then stir gently again. Continue adding 5 ml of water then stir until you see the bubbles stay in the middle or do not sink immediately after you stir. When its ready, add some more 70% alcohol. Stir. 6. Put on heat source and watch the cool lava lamp effect. 7. Explain what is happening in terms of convection.
