  3. History • 1969: ARPANET • Linked scientists and academic researchers • 1986: NSFnet connected to ARPANET • Together the two became the Internet • Until 1995 • NSFnet handled most traffic • 1995: terminated its network and returned to a research network

  4. The Internet Today • Public, Cooperative, and Independent • World Wide Web Consortium sets standards • Internet 2 • Focus is on improving current internet • Develops and tests advanced technologies • Professionals able to communicate over long distances

  24. Analyze and Design a Web Site • Determine specific way to meet the goals identified in planning • Design layout • Text, graphics, audio, video, and virtual reality • Obtain required hardware
