Who am I? • Background in English music of the 17th and 18th centuries (!). BMus (Sheffield), MusM (Manchester), DPhil (Oxon) • Joined SOAS in September 2002 • Also have responsibility for • space planning • teaching timetable • various learning and teaching related projects

What is the Bloomsbury Learning Environment? • Collaboration initiated by SOAS in April 2004 • Blackboard software installed on LSHTM servers in August 2004 • IoE joined the group in June 2005 • Transfer to Blackboard v7 ASP-hosted in summer 2006
Challenges of collaboration • Four different institutions • Multiple sysadmins • Different look and feel required • Different content to be delivered across and between each institution
Data model • Multiple primary institution roles (mostly one per partner) • Many secondary institution roles (e.g. staff, student, external users) • Certain roles see: • Branding • Tabs • Modules
Further personalisation • What kind of user you are, but also - • Exactly who you are! • Single sign on for particular resources, including: • Individual timetable • Image galleries • Online tutorial signup
Conclusion • Further personalisation possible at system levels – e.g. direct entry to webmail system • Then self-customisation next priority, e.g. RSS and Podcast subscriptions
