SnapChat security Emily Higgins
A false illusion of privacy • Teens and tweens believe images are permanently erased, and are taking advantage of this to take inappropriate and risky images. Even those using the app for innocent reasons may not be aware of the downfalls of the app
Analyzing SnapChat’s Privacy • ScreenShots • Take a picture of a picture with another device • Pictures are being leaked
Still not safe from the NSA • Several photos have been handed over to law enforcement agencies so far • Unopened Snaps remain on SnapChat servers, US Government can request these if a search warrant is obtained • Although SnapChat may not live up to its reputation, there are other services that do, such as spider oak
SpiderOak • “Zero knowledge” cloud storage service • Does not keep copies of users’ encryptions so there is no way for files to be accessed
