  3. How do Hornets SOAR Today? Today, Hornets will own your actions!

Preamble The Declaration of Independence We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

  5. Freedom Week • Signing the Declaration of Independence was extremely dangerous – a treasonable act, punishable by death. • Congress initially kept the names of the men who signed the document secret until January 1777 to protect them from charges of treason.

  6. National Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 to October 15 --Recognition of the contributions of Hispanic and Latin Americans to the heritage and culture of the United States-- • Was the son of migrant farm workers • Educated at UCLA and Stanford University • Earned his MFA from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop • Written numerous poetry collections: 187 Reasons Mexicanos Can’t Cross the Border: Undocuments 1971-2007, Half of the World in Light: New and Selected Poems (2008) Border-Crosser with a Lamborghini Dream (1999). Juan Felipe Herrera U.S. Poet Laureate--2015-2017

Herrera wrote from the influences of three distinct Californias— the small agricultural towns of the San Joaquin Valley he knew as a child, San Diego’s Logan Heights, and San Francisco’s Mission District. On his work: “all these landscapes became stories, and all those languages became voices in my writing, all those visuals became colors and shapes which made me more human and gave me a wide panorama to work from.” Juan Felipe Herrera U.S. Poet Laureate--2015-2017

  9. Homecoming 2019-20 • Tuesday, October 15 – Homecoming game against Hilliard. • Friday, October 18-- Homecoming Dance •  Anyone interested in assisting with the planning of homecoming, please meet in room 8-15 at 8:15 AM on Friday, September 20.

  10. YMS Future Business Leaders of America Please see Mrs. Reynolds in room 08-14(long hall) for a brochure, an application, and a teacher recommendation form.   All paperwork must be received by Wednesday, September 25th.   Be a Leader Now!

  11. YMS Tabletop Gaming Club • Do you like to play games? Join the Gaming Club! • Come enjoy...Monopoly…Risk…Checkers… Chess…Rampage…Ticket to Ride…Munchkin! • If that’s not your thing, what about Dungeons and Dragons? • Or you can try puzzle games, yo-yos, and building sets! • Meet every Thursday in room 831 right after school until 5 PM. • Make sure you have a ride home! Get a form from Mr. Sernaker.

  12. Quidditch—Muggles Welcome! • YMS Quidditch Club meets every Tuesday. • Pick up a sports packet in the main office. Get that completed ASAP! • Meet in room 204 in the media center right after school. Come “S.O.A.R.” with us!

  13. Attention, Football Players: Meet in Coach Matto’s room right after school.

  14. YMS Football Rocks! • Next game—at Trinity Christian Middle School • September 24 • Bring home the win!

  15. Lady Hornets are a FORCE! • The Ladies play at home against FBMS at 5:30 and 6:30 in the gym on Monday. • Plunder those Pirates, Ladies.

  16. September is Suicide Prevention Month. • Step 1 is #BeThe1To ASK. • Step 2 is #BeThe1To KEEP THEM SAFE. • Step 3 is #BeThe1To BE THERE. • Step 4 is #BeThe1To HELP THEM CONNECT. • Step 5 is #BeThe1To FOLLOW UP.

  17. This is Suicide Prevention Month, but…YMS will focus on this ALL YEAR! Be a part of the solution. This banner will be up all year in the cafeteria to remind us to care! Read the poster for ideas on how you can help!

  18. Make this a great day for everyone by following the rules. • Dress according to the code, and remember no open containers on campus.
