Introduction • (2 Peter 3:10-12) But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. … because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? (NKJV) • 1Co 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. • 1Th 4:16-17 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. • 1Th 5:3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. … therefore be prepared/steadfast
Wise and Foolish Virgins(Matthew 25:1-13) • Customary parade to follow the bride and groom • What is the difference in the wise and foolish? • What if the bride had come earlier? • Foolish – Word that we get moron from • Was there any more chances after the door was shut? Preparedness
Wise and Foolish Virgins(Matthew 25:1-13) • Virgins = Christians • Ten (even the foolish) came • They were not prepared
And they shall not escape. … therefore be prepared/steadfast
Wise and Foolish Virgins(Matthew 25:1-13) • Virgins = Christians • Ten (even the foolish) came • Five were prepared and five were not prepared • When they realized their condition • Reached out to other virgins (Christians) to “take their provisions” • Found out it was too late? • Lessons?
The Talents(Matthew 25:14-30) • Talents = Money, Charge, Responsibility • Five, Two, One – Each according to his abilities • All received work to do while he was gone • Delivered his goods (watch my business) • Same blessing for the (Five becoming Ten) and (Two becoming Four)
The Talents(Matthew 25:14-30) • Judgment for the wasted talent • What would have happened if he had given that talent to someone else? • So scared to act he did nothing! • Are we given responsibilities according to our ability? • Do we invest them? • If we invest them what happens? • Do we dig a hole and hid them? • Are we to scared to act? • If we dig a hole and hid them, what will our reward be?
The Talents(Matthew 25:14-30) • How does this relate to the story of the wise/foolish virgins? • (v. 13) Watch for his return because you don’t know • Be prepared when he returns • Two were prepared one was not • Last, why was it given to the one, which already had 10 and not the one who had 4? • The “responsibility” will be give according to the ability like in verse 15. The one with more ability will receive more responsibility (work to do).
The Sheep and the Goats(Matthew 25:14-30) • Another story of it would be too late to prepare at the time of the coming of Jesus with His holy angels. • All Nations (Jews and Gentiles) • Jesus will separate (the King)
The Sheep and the Goats(Matthew 25:14-30) • How would it feel for Jesus to separate you with the sheep? • Think of this as you think of the voice inflection of their question to Jesus. • Come blessed of My Father inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. • For you …. • When did we see you ……? (Shock, surprise) • How would it feel for Jesus to separate you with the goats? • Think of this feeling as you imagine the voice inflection of the goats as they say the exact same words. • Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels. • For you didn’t ….. • When did we see you …..? (dread, doom, shock, surprise)
The Sheep and the Goats(Matthew 25:14-30) • This passage doesn’t teach they were saved only by the good works. • However, it does seem to suggest they were lost due to the lack of these good works. • What do we learn about what we should be doing while we wait for the “end of time”? • NOTICE: • The fate of the foolish version (started but didn’t prepare). • The fate of the one who was given responsibility according to his ability but dug a hole and buried it • The fate of the one who didn’t perform the good works • The fate of the devil and his angels. • THEY ARE ALL THE SAME!!!!!
The Sheep and the Goats(Matthew 25:14-30) • Notice these three parables are still in response to the apostles question, “When will the end time come?” • Jesus answers “it is unknown when!” • That is not important • Being prepared and working with what you have until this time IS IMPORTANT!
Jesus Predicts His Death (Mark 14:1-2; Matt. 26:1-5; Luke 22:1-2) • Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, that He said to His disciples • You know that after two days is the Passover • The Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified. • Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people • Assembled at the palace of the high priest (Caiaphas) • Plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him • But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.”
Judas Makes a Deal (Mark 14:10-11; Matt. 26:14-16; Luke 22:3-6) • Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus • “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” • They were glad and counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.. • So from that time he (Judas) sought opportunity to betray Him.
Preparation of the Lord’s Supper (Mark 14:12-16; Matt. 26:17-19; Luke 22:7-13) • Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb must be killed. • (Mark) They killed the Passover lamb • And He sent Peter and John, saying, • "Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat." • So they said to Him, • "Where do You want us to prepare?" • And He said to them, • Behold, when you have entered the city, • a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; • follow him into the house which he enters.
Preparation of the Lord’s Supper (Mark 14:12-16; Matt. 26:17-19; Luke 22:7-13) • Then you shall say to the master of the house, • 'The Teacher says to you, • My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples. • Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” • Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready. • So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.
