The suburban population in North America exploded during the post-World War II economic expansion. Returning veterans wishing to start a settled life moved en masse to the suburbs. Levittown developed as a major prototype of mass-produced housing.
American Family and their Roles
In the 1950's the normative American family consisted of a breadwinner father, homemaker mother, and several children, all living in homes in the suburbs on the outskirts of a larger city. It was a narrow view of a model family, yet it pervaded the media and was widely accepted as the ideal and most normal.
There were many scientific impacts of the 1950’s. There were advances in the health industry, space exploration, home appliances, and entertainment. We were also in competition with the Soviets to prove which country was better. Polio Vaccine
