  4. Literature is written about things like: • History • Art • Linguistics • The study of the nature, structure, and variation of language • Medicine • Philology • The humanistic study of language and literature • Philosophy

  5. Books are also written in: • Japanese • Indian • Arabic • Hebrew Dictionary written in Chinese

  7. Most common languages spoken are: • English • Arabic • Mandarin • Hebrew • Japanese • Korean • Less common languages spoken are: • -Filipino • -Russian • -Tai • -Turkish • -Vietnamese • -Georgian

  8. Asia’s Family Life

  9. Then: • Patriarchal • Men are more valued because they carry the family name • Women are less valued • perform domestic chores, and bear children. • Extended Family

  10. Now: • Marriages and family life are changing • Young people are waiting later to marry, couples are having less children • More married women are working outside the home • More households are becoming nuclear instead of extended
