Islamic Revival • Many against modernization (western influence) • Blame the west for poverty and everything else wrong in the world • Islamists want to go back to strict traditions and base governments on Islam • Women’s role is big question • Only current country run by Islamists is Iran
Arab Traditions • Heaven is described with water, food and shade • Share food and hospitality for 3 days • Welcome feasts—sit on floor, no utensils, use right hand, huge group plate to share • Women prepare food and sit/eat separately from the men
