Close the Gap is a 3-year strategic campaign to unite the community, and narrow the food gap, by providing access to 50 million meals annually by 2011. • The mission of the North Texas Food Bank is to passionately pursue a hunger-free community by distributing food through a network of 917 feeding and education programs , in 260 Member Agencies, across 13 counties in North Texas. Every $1 donated to the Food Bank provides five meals, and $ .97 cents of each donated dollar goes directly toward food distribution. • “It is no longer acceptable to grow incrementally. We must do what needs to be done to Close the Gap!” Jan Pruitt, President & CEO, North Texas Food Bank • What is the food gap? • According to the U.S. Census, there are over one half million people living at or below the poverty line in our North Texas Service Area. We have analyzed the need for food in this population and determined that there is a gap between what we are currently providing and what is actually needed to meet the nutritional needs. The difference between what we are doing and what is needed is the food gap. • The North Texas Food Bank has set an aggressive goal to impact hunger by doubling our current impact in order to provide access to 50 million meals by 2011. • How can I get involved and help close the gap on hunger? • The North Texas Food Bank offers four key ways to get involved: • For every $1 donated, we distribute five meals. We can leverage your dollars though a regularly occurring monthly donation or a one time gift! • A response to hunger requires community awareness! Be aware of local and national issues surrounding hunger and speak out for those whose voice may not be heard. • Volunteers are in our warehouse every weekday, and on weekends, preparing food for distribution!
