  1. Another Way to Die Caleb Radish

  2. Background • This image is found in the music video Another Way to Die by Disturbed. • The video was filmed by Robert Schober. • Was Disturbed’s first single to reach top of the charts

  3. Focus • What is the first thing that you see when first viewing this image?

  4. Focus • When I first saw this image, the first thing I saw was the anguished look on the mans face, followed by his hand, and then the gas pump.

  5. Background What is the importance of the background of the image?

  6. Background • The importance of the background of the image is to show the environment that the person is living in. The environment is obviously ravaged and now nothing remains besides a barren wasteland.

  7. Color What is taken away from the image by changing the image to black and white?

  8. Color • I felt that by changing the color to black and white destroys the main message of the image. The image is supposed to be a call to action to avoid this from happening in the future but, by changing the color, it changes the meaning by making it appear that it happened many years ago.

  9. Audience • Who is the targeted audience for this image?

  10. Audience • The targeted audience for this image would be the youngest generation, giving them a idea of what this world could become if you do not take care of it

  11. Logos • What is the logical appeal of this image?

  12. Logos • You can see that this man is starving due to this arms, see that he is living a very rough life style due to his appearance, and very poor teeth. He is living in a place that is very barren, with very few resources .

  13. Ethos • What is the emotional appeal of the image?

  14. Ethos • The ethical appeal of the image is apparent only if you understand the background of the image or are watching the video. Fans of Disturbed are likely to follow what this image suggests because they listen to the band often.

  15. Pathos • What is the emotional appeal in this image?

  16. Pathos • The man is clearly in his older age, has ragged clothing, and you can clearly tell he is famished. This all puts together a feeling of sympathy towards the old man but at the same time can put fear into the viewers through the idea that this could happen.

  17. Symbolism Symbolism • What is being symbolized in the image?

  18. Symbolism • The two main symbols in the image are the man and the gas pump. The man symbolizes what could happen to people, while the gas pump symbolizes not only a gun, but what fossil fuels can do to us.
