Creative Ways to Engage FSET Participants The Department of Economic Opportunity
Excite Participants About Program Participation • Invite Work Experience site staff to attend Orientation to “sell” the benefits of working at their site • Invite former participants to speak at Orientation about their experiences • Collaborate with WT as appropriate FSET
Applaud Participants Efforts • At completion of employability skills training, host a graduation party with certificates, giveaways, gift certificates • Encourage local businesses to donate items • Match employability skills graduates or active Work Experience participants with a (personal) job developer or Wagner-Peyser employee
Encourage Ongoing Participation • Collaborate with One-Stop partners and community programs to hold joint meetings with participants • Offer roundtable discussions or support groups • Share ideas, job leads, etc. • Collaborate with WT as appropriate • Offer mentoring component • Match participants with community volunteer mentors
Encourage Ongoing Participation • Identify services and incentives from other partners to encourage participants • Publish a list of FSET successes and how to achieve them • Publish a list of frequent FSET offenses and how to avoid them • Use the Individual Responsibility Plan, or a locally developed form, to identify goals, barriers, and steps to self sufficiency
Clearly Explain Work Requirements • Provide a printed calendar to each participant, per month • Write the work/activity requirements and required hours on top • Document the date of the next scheduled appointment • Ask the participant to have the activity hours documented throughout the month. S(he) should ensure that required hours are completed.
