Examples of collaboration • A 3-D bathroom tile simulation software. This was developed between 3 partners from Italy, France and Spain. The Italian company,ENEA identified and brought in companies from other EC countries (EMC Consultores SA, a computer and high technology company based in Spain and Interaction, the Rhône-Alpes regional development technology agency, France). Another example • The German company, Walter AG, is a well-known producer of cutting tools. When the company contacted Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum, co-ordinator of the South Germany IRC, with a request for help in the software sector, Steinbeis proposed a collaboration with a Hungarian company, TMB. The two firms were introduced and, as a result, specialist software for controlling grinding machines was created for the ubiquitous Windows platform. IRC: ICT Presentation Sept 2004

Collaboration types • Technical • To adapt a technology for a new application or sector; or to develop a technology to meet new market needs. • Co-development of a new product using the expertise of the Developer and the production facilities of the Recipient. • To develop a new version of an existing product to meet market need. • Joint Venture • They imply the creation of a formalised link between companies with the sharing of commercially sensitive information to allow development or production of new technologies, processes and products. Collaboration types • Licensing • The transfer of certain rights from the Developer of a technology, process or know how to the Recipient, in return for a fee or share of royalties. • Manufacturing • 1. Subcontracting Capacity - the Developer transfers some of its know-how to the subcontractor to allow the subcontractor to perform the work required • 2. Subcontracting Specialities - The Contractor selects the subcontractor on the basis of skills, expertise and know-how it possesses, to develop new processes and technologies. • Commercial with Technical • The provision of a number of services in support of, or essential to a transfer of technology.
