  4. INCITING FORCE After Sergeant Major Morris successfully entices the White’s to own the paw, the conflict is now set.

  7. RISING ACTION 5th The knocking starts 1st Wishes for 200 Pounds 4th Wishes for Herbert alive 3rd Receives 200 Pounds compensation 2nd Herbert Dies

  8. CRISIS * A crisis is a problem where there seems to be no solution. The outcome of the story cannot be predicted yet.

  9. CRISIS Mrs. White is frantically trying to unlock the top bolt downstairs… Mr. White is upstairs searching in the dark for the paw…

  10. CLIMAX Mr. White finds the paw first! The outcome of the story can be predicted!

  11. As soon as Mr. White finds the paw, we know what is likely to occur. CRISIS/CLIMAX

  12. FALLING ACTION Mr. White makes his third wish…probably for Herbert to be dead again. The White’s run out into the deserted street. A street lamp flickers.

  13. THEME One must be careful for what he or she wishes.
