  2. History of Rock Music Rock music is a genre of Pop music (popular music) which has its roots in 1940’s and 1950’s, being heavily influenced by Rhythm and Blues (R&B). Rock ‘n’ roll was the earliest form of rock music which originated in the USA; though some elements of rock n roll can be heard in records from 1930s, rock ‘n’ roll was not then popular and did not acquire its name until the 50s. In rock n roll music, either the piano or saxophone was often the lead instrument, but these were generally replaced or supplemented by guitar and is almost always provided by a snare drum. Rock music developed in 1960’s, particularly because the UK also produced bands, like the Beatles, which contribution to the rock industry. It has been  redefined and reinvented itself which caused a number of distinct rock music sub-genres to emerge.

  4. Elvis Presley Elvis Presley was one of the first rock idols and the face of rock n roll. There were rock performers before Presley, but he was a performer that the rock fans wanted see (in concerts and shows) as well as hear. Presley introduced R&B (rhythm and blues)to the White-Americans since earliest musical influence came from gospel.  According to Rolling Stone Magazine, "it was Elvis who made rock 'n' roll the international language of pop."

  5. Sub-genres Rock music has numerous sub-genres but the major ones are metal, punk and alternative rock.
