SESAME Motion Control System • Requirements: • - Around 60 stepper motors to be controlled for XRF/XAFS beamline • Our Need: • - EPICS compatible controller • - Integrated controller/driver • - User-friendly controller • - To be used & tested in other facilities • - Ethernet fast communication We decided to go with Newport XPS-Q8 Controller for testing purposes XPS-Q8 Controller
SESAME Motion Control System - Tested at SESAME - Stepper motors of the XAFS/XRF beamline had been connected and tested. - EPICS IOC had been run and client GUI was connected to the controller. XPS-Q8 GUI XPS-Q8 Specifications
SESAME Motion Control System • XPS-Q8 Compared to other controllers • - Price is expensive (about $14k for 8-Axis) • - Advanced options will not be required for SESAME beamlines • - Most compatible with Newport motor stages • - Mostly used in the US • Other Alternatives ?? • - BMAC(Cheap price, EPICS compatible, not installed • before for the beamlines) • - Galil(EPICS compatible, used at AUS & SOLEIL) • - Beckhoff(TwinCAT PLC, Easy Installed, EPICS not fully • tested,)
