Miata Ramirez and Rudy are both in grade five in the same school. They want to be the grade leader. Miata promises to plant flowers and clean the school. While Rudy promises extra ice cream and more recess time. Miata was shy and told her that she want to clean the school and erase the graffiti and plant flowers. So, Mrs. Dona told Miata that she will help her and give her the flowers and the roses she need. Miata imagine how the school will be a sweet- smelling school. One day Miata was sitting between her campaign posters calling her friends to remind them to vote for her, someone called her in her residence to make fun of her so she left the phone not to hear the obnoxious words and unpleasant voice. 9 2
Miata was liked to listen to the story and see how the children gone to college. Mrs. Dona and Miata talked about Rudy and what he promises. Miata went down to eat her breakfast and asked her father if he knew anyone important? Her father asked her “ Do you mean someone famous?” Miata said “ Yeah, dad .“ Miata wanted someone famous to endorse and support her campaign. 8 3
Her mother told her that she knew a woman who had been a mayor. Miata wanted to visit the woman maybe she can tell her how to win the elections. So the mother arranged to let Miata visit Mrs. Dona Carmen. Mrs. Dona told Miata that she supported city teachers with new city ideas to teach the students. Because the children were not bad but they liked to play a lot. Mrs. Dona saw the future and how the children need to advance not to stay in place. The people understood her and so she won. 7 4
Mrs. Dona told Miata that she was running the elections against her husband, who died 8 years ago. Miata saw a picture for them on the T.V. Miata’s mother was going to the market and she drove Miata on her way to bring some bread for Mrs. Dona. When Miata arrived she was afraid to enter. Mrs. Dona welcomed Miata with a soft face.
