  1. Etiquette Rules of the “Do’s” & “Don’ts” of accepted behaviors/mannerisms in society (i.e. civility)

  2. Netiquette • Refers to acceptable communication over an Internet connection • Inappropriate communication could result in your being fired, fined, or imprisoned.

  3. Email Netiquette • Always ask yourself… • What’s the purpose for the email? • Is email the best way to communicate this information?

  4. Should I email my teacher? • To clarify an assignment Teachers are busy people and receive a lot of parent email and district email per day. Please only send when relevant to your work & allow at least 24 hours to receive a response.

  5. Emailing a classmate? • Always email with purpose and remember your netiquette rules: • Email between students may not hold to all rules of proper grammar and spelling but should use enough to still communicate the idea/purpose of sending the email • How you email says a lot about WHO YOU ARE…and what your WORK ETHIC is. • ALL CAPS ---inconsiderate of others • all lower case---too lazy to care about what you are doing • Email should be used to HELP you-- as a student-- not hurt someone else. • Email communications can be used in court • Cyber-bullying is against the law. • Cyber-bullying happens when kids/adults bully each other through electronic technology. You can be fined, and/or spend time in jail. It is a crime and has serious consequences. Plus, you loose your privileges to use the computer.

  6. Assignment • Log into your email account • Email me three things you learned from today’s lesson on Netiquette. • I will forward each of you a copy of my ppt. for you to keep in your inbox. • You can use it as a resource.
