PHM Europe: Concept Note Team Europe, IPHU Savar, November 2007 PHMeurope@gmail.com
What? Prioritise the creation of an active PHM Europe circle over active country circles in Europe. • Why? 2 reasons. • 1. Because of the peculiar nature of activism in Europe that is voluntary and so sporadic. With a PHM Europe there will always be something going on somewhere. • 2. PHM in Europe will inevitably play a different role in the Global PHM from PHM in developing countries, because of the need to combine a focus on health in Europe with a focus on health in developing countries. So more action at regional level, e.g. in WHA. • How? Building membership of PHM Europe, developing strategies, events and processes.
Actions of the IPHU Europeans • Set up blog. Blog content will be information on important things, mainly comprising links to websites, e.g. “Look at this website, it has good information on TRIPS.” • Contact existing active PHM Europe people (e.g. Alexis Benos, Pam Zinkin). “Hello, we are a group who met at IPHU, we have some ideas. Tell us more about your experience and tell us what you think.”
Actions of the IPHU Europeans • Contact existing inactive PHM email contacts, new individuals, organisations and networks. “Hi, we’re setting up this circle in Europe. We will have a meeting one year down the line to decide what we’re going to do. This is what PHM is doing globally, here are our ideas for what we want to do with PHM in Europe. Perhaps you can suggest your ideas, and contribute to what we’re doing on our blog.” • Meet one year down the line somewhere in Europe and start to turn PHM from a region of contact points to a region of focal points. • European revolution.
