CNG Highlights • The CNG project combines the use of InGame Graphical Insertion on users’ local devices and the use of P2P traffic for UGC Video/Graphicalapplications to facilitate and support community activities on MMOGs. • This innovative approach linked the highly interactive environment of MMOGs (operating on their existing servers) with new CNG graphical and community functionality. • The MMOG and Community activities are merged by the graphical processing on end-users’ devices.
In-game Graphical Insertion Technology [1] The original resolution of the game was modified to enable an additional frame around the game to hold the in-frame objects. [2] MSN messenger window [3] Web browser [4] Another web browser window [5] MMOG specific chat to enable the users in a specific scene to cooperate. [6] In-game 3D UGC. [7] Two windows of a video chat with casual friends or cooperative players.
CNG Innovations • InGame Graphical Insertion Technology (IGIT): new techniques of replacing existing texture with a new one and adding new 3D and Video elements; including: • InGame Asset Replacement and Asset Insertion • Inserting In-Frame Web Browser for hosting Web 2.0 applications. • Enhanced peer-to-peer (P2P) Video and Content delivery: new application-layer mechanisms to allow users to diffuse their User-Generated Content (UGC) over a P2P overlay without harming the game experience (MMOG-friendly P2P); including: • Overlays for P2P User Generated Streaming Diffusion • MMOG-friendly P2P traffic • Efficient transmission of user-generated content over a P2P overlay • New Business Models that capitalise on CNGs’ innovative approach.
