  3. ADMISSIONS – SCHOOL LEAVER UNDA seeks to enrol students who wish to make a special contribution to society. To identify such students we use a comprehensive admissions process that goes beyond the use of a single score. Our admissions process considers: • School results from Yrs 11 AND 12 • TER • Personal Statement • References from school and work contacts • Interview

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS • Secondary Graduation • Students should have fulfilled the Curriculum Council’s Secondary Graduation requirements by achieving at least 8 ‘C’ grades in Years 11 and 12 subjects • English Language Competency • A ‘C’ grade in either English, English Literature or ESL • Prerequisites • Notre Dame does NOT have prerequisites but other universities MAY require them for some courses • Tertiary Entrance Rank • Students should have achieved a rank of 70.00 or higher *Students with exceptional circumstances may be exempted from one or more of these requirements*

  12. APPLICATIONS • Students can submit application anytime after receipt of their Yr 12 first semester results • First Round • Closing Date - 30 September 2004 • Eligible students who have submitted applications by this date will be interviewed by December 17 2004.

  13. LATE APPLICATIONS • Late applications for most courses are accepted up until 21 January 2005 • Late applications for competitive courses may not be considered until 2nd round i.e. nursing • Students may apply to defer for up to one year in most courses

  14. THE INTERVIEW • October or December • Informal • Personal Motivation • Understanding of the Course • An exchange of information • Some courses the interview is pivotal • Smart & casual (school uniform)

  15. DEFERRALS • Students who defer with an active purpose i.e. to work for financial support when they commence study • Students who defer to study abroad etc. • Students who defer to holiday

  16. STUDENTS FROM RURAL AND REMOTE AREAS • Admission interviews by phone • Mentor scheme • Pastoral care services

  17. ALTERNATIVE ENTRY APPEALS PROCESS • In exceptional cases an appeal can be lodged • Students appeal to the Registrar through the Admissions Manager • Registrar takes affirmative action • further consideration by the College • contacts referee’s or even the school for recommendations

  18. ALTERNATIVE ENTRY • NDI Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation • Teaching Assistant Certificate Programs • Nationally Accredited Certificate IV or Diploma from: • TAFE • Private Education Provider’s such as PIBT, AIUS, Alexander College etc.

  19. ALTERNATIVE ENTRY • Accumulative TEE • Ideal for sports athletes or other co-curriculum commitments • Repeat TEE • Consider why they are repeating • Personal challenge for higher achievement • To improve on score despite effort being applied in the initial TEE • Attrition rate is higher

ALTERNATIVE ENTRY – FIRST YEAR • Academic flexibility means choices are not necessarily set in cement • Transferable credit • Between courses • Amongst universities • Academic performance is considered • Ability to build on academic reputation and demonstrate competency for more competitive courses • 1 yr of Science preferably biological/human science for consideration into Physiotherapy • Legal studies for Law - Behavioural Science for Nursing

  21. ADMISSION FROM TAFE • Certificate IV meets minimum entry requirements • Following study, applicants provide: • Completed application • Personal Statement • Results from TAFE • References; TAFE and/or personal • STAT result (if applicable) • Following application: Interview

  22. HIGHER EDUCATION CONTRIBUTION SCHEME (HECS) In 2005, the annual fees for courses at public universities are as follows:

  23. NOTRE DAME TUITION FEES 1st YEAR Options for fee payment: Upfront Payment - Fee-Help Loan * A limited number of fully-funded HECS places are available

  24. FEE-HELP LOAN SCHEME • From 2005 all full fee paying students will be able to borrow the cost of their fees from the Federal Government • Limit of $50,000 on FEE-HELP loans • Students will not have to repay their loan until their income reaches at least $35,000. • For undergraduate courses the Commonwealth will impose a modest loan fee that equates to an interest rate of less than 2%.
