  1. Objectives: Write equations that represent real-world situations. Solve 2-step equations. Standards Addressed: 2.8.8.C: Create and interpret equations that model problem situations. 2.8.8.E: Select and use a strategy to solve an equation. 3.3 Solving Two-Step Equations

  2. Ex. 1 Colby bought a beach hat and 7 beach towels. The beach hat cost $18 and the total bill, before tax, is $74. What is the cost of one beach towel? Let t represent the cost of one beach towel in dollars.

  3. Ex. 2 Solve the following problems below: • A. 10x + 3 = 33 - 3 -3 10x = 30 10 10 x = 3 B. -47 = 3x – 50 + 50 + 50 3 = 3x 1 = x

  4. Ex. 2 Solve the following problems below: • C. 15y + 31 = 61 -31 -31 15y = 30 15 15 y = 2 • D. -35 = 2p + 10 -10 -10 -45 = 2p -22.5 = p

  5. Ex. 3 Solve the following problems below:

  6. C. -4.2 = + 1.8 -1.8 -1.8 -6 = m/2 -12 = m • D. - 3 = 10 + 3 + 3 x/-4 = 10 x = -40

  7. Ex. 4 a. Noah bought 6 glasses and 6 mugs. Each mug cost $5.98 and each glass cost $2.99. The salesperson tells Noah that his total bill, before tax, is $60.60. Noah estimates that 1 mug and 1 glass would cost between $8 and $9, so 6 mugs and 6 glasses should cost between $48 and $54. Noah thinks that $60.60 is too high. Noah noticed that the correct price was scanned for the mugs. What price did the scanner give for each of the glasses?

  8. b. Daphne buys two types of film, color and black-and-white. The color film costs $3 per roll and the black-and-white film normally costs $5 per roll. She buys 5 rolls of color film and 6 rolls of black-and-white film. Daphne is expecting to pay $45 but is surprised to find that her total is $39. She realizes that the black-and-white film is on sale. How much did she pay for each roll of black-and-white film? Write and solve an equation. • 15 + 6 b = 39 -15 -15 6b = 24 6 6 b = 4 per roll
