This course enables students to explore their Interest and creativity in the field of interior design. = Design and Presentation = Identification and application of the elements and principles of design are emphasized throughout. = Also included is an introduction to housing floor plans, Design, symbols, and circulation patterns. = Students will compile all of these concepts into a One Room Final Presentation board.
The STATE required performance objectives (assignments) are: • Demonstrate professional lettering and mounting techniques. • Present examples of the elements of design and explain each concept in writing. • Create a color wheel identifying primary, secondary, and tertiary/intermediate colors • Create tints, tones and shades. • Create or present visual examples of major color schemes. • Present examples of the principles of design and explain each concept in writing. • Identify and Label common floor plan symbols. • Label a floor plan with the three basic living zones and indicate the functions of each zone. • Using a floor plan, create a furniture arrangement incorporating principles and elements of design and space planning.
CLASS SUPPLIES (* items): Due in class on January 31(200 pts) ALL SUPPLIES SHOULD BE LABELD WITH YOUR NAME/PERIOD. Supplies may be kept in a class tote bin or kept in a ziplock bag in your binder. They are to be with you every class period. • *1.5 – 2” binder – to be used for this class only • *Good eraser (pink pearl or kneaded eraser) • *6 Dividers (Labeled: class procedures, unit 1, unit 2, unit 3, unit 4, and unit 5) • *Sharp Pencil (mechanical pencils work well. Have back up pencil lead) • *Lined notebook paper • *1 set of colored pencils • *1 small bottle of rubber cement or 2 glue sticks • *12 inch ruler • *Scissors • *1 Black fine tip Sharpie marker • *One (1) Housing Magazine (HOME, Architectural Digest, Interior Design, House Beautiful, etc) • Matt or Foam Core Presentation Board - DUE by end of semester for FINAL PROJECT • Bag of Candy for gingerbread houses • OPTIONAL: (I will have white and black construction paper for you to use) • White or black cardstock paper. *** PLEASE see me if getting the above supplies is an issue ***
Follow Company Rules • School rules and procedures will be followed and enforced. • Outside food and drink are only to be brought to class on Food Day Fridays. • Phones are to be turned off and put away. • Music is to be turned off and put away.

Be on the Job Everyday • Since most of the learning and assignments take place in class, attendance is a necessity • The school attendance policy will be followed • Make-up work will be given for absences. Students have 2 class days to complete this. • Final Acceptance for all work is 1 week after the due date whether the absence was excused or not. • A voucher must be attached to all make-up workand tests or it will not be accepted. • All Late and makeup work (excused and unexcused) will be subject a to 10% point deduction. • Missed class? Come prepared to Work, Participate, Learn, and Have Fun • Class will include: portfolio projects and assignments, bell quizzes, group work, speakers, and CTE state competency test. • Each student will come to class prepared with paper, writing utensil, and a class notebook. I will not supply these. • Students are responsible for all information and work presented in class whether here or not. • Check assignment board often for assignments, due dates, and personal progress • First 5 minutes of class are for roll and bell quiz. Last 5 minutes are set aside for questions and handing in late or make-up work.
Complete all Assignments on Time • To be considered on time, work is to be handed in at the beginning of class or when called for. Make PRIOR arrangements if you know you will be absent. • Late/make-up, whether it is excused or unexcused work, will be accepted until the date of Final Acceptance, 1 week after it is due. • All Late and makeup work (excused and unexcused) will be subject to a 10% point deduction. • A voucher must be attached to all late workand make-up work or it will not be accepted. • Each student will receive 4 assignment VOUCHERS per quarter. This can be used for hall passes, make-up work, tardies, late work, or saved for 5 extra credit points each at the end of the quarter. No sloppy, untidy, no-name, or otherwise substandard work will be graded.
Punch in on Time Students are expected to be on time • So as not to get marked absent, LATE students are to sign the tardy sheet before going to their seat. • More than 15 minutes late equals an absent. • A voucher can cancel out a tardy
Pay and Bonuses are based on YOUR performance • Your paycheck for this class will be the grade that you receive. Just as you don’t receive money for not working, the same applies in class. Your grade is your choice. • Limited extra credit will be available to those who are caught up with their assignments. • Being involved in FCCLA, extra projects, correcting work, your state final, and hanging onto your vouchers. • Grading is as follows: See RUBRIC • 93 - 100 A 90 - 92 A- 87 - 89 B+ • 83 - 86 B 80 - 82 B- 77 - 79 C+ • 73 - 76 C 70 - 72 C- 67 - 69 D+ • 63 - 66 D 60 - 62 D - 59 - 0 F
Grading will consist of projects, portfolio checks, tests, and assignments.
Citizenship will be marked as follows: • “H” can be earned by students who are considerate of others, helpful, interested, follow class rules, are responsible, high percentage, and promote the success of the class. • “S” can be earned by students who follow class rules, are not disruptive, medium percentage, and have no more than 2 tardies/absences. • “N” will be given for inappropriate or disruptive behavior, for less than full effort, low percentages, and 4 tardies/absences • “U” will be given for beyond inappropriate or disruptive behavior, cheating or helping to cheat, and for 5 or more tardies/absences.
FERPA • ► Due To recent concern regarding the Family Education Right to Privacy Act (FERPA), I am letting you know that the student’s assignments might be corrected by other students, under the direction of the teacher. Students are advised that confidentiality and honesty are of the utmost importance. Any violation of such will be dealt with administratively.

DESIGN a CHAIR • The basic function is given to you, but you decide how and where the chair will be used. Use the pattern or design your own. The materials used for your chair are up to you. • Brainstorm the design process by answering the questions in the study guide.
