Immigration Then… • Immigrants are people who leave their homelands to live in another country. • Immigrants go to other countries seeking better lives. • Many immigrants in the 1800’s and 1900’s arrived through Ellis Island.
Angel Island • Most Asian immigrants came from China. • Asian immigrants crossed the Pacific Ocean and made their arrival at Angel Island. • Early immigrants came from both European and Asian countries.

Immigration Now… • Immigrants still come to the United States today. • Immigrants come seeking political and religious freedom, economic opportunities, and a better way of life. • Immigrants come from many different countries such as Kenya, India, Vietnam, and the Middle East.
