General Safety • Good housekeeping • Always clean up your area • Always put tools back where they go
Oxyacetylene Welding • Know the proper procedure • Check that all tanks off, butterfly valves backed out, and torch valves closed before starting • Open Oxygen all the way • Open acetylene ¼ turn • Adjust Oxygen butterfly valve to 20 psi • Adjust Acetylene butterfly valve to 5 psi • Torch is ready – crack acetylene valve to light, then adjust flame
Oxyacetylene Welding • Cylinders • Tied up in proper place • Keep caps on • Never drop • Hoses • Check for holes with soap, not oil • If holes, need replaced or professionally repaired (can’t tape, etc)

Arc Welding • Arc Welding • Fusing two pieces of metal together • Higher the amperage, hotter the weld • Deeper the penetration • Beveling can increase penetration
Arc Welding • Preparation • Use a shade 10-12 helmet with your glasses on underneath • Cover all skin, wear gloves and clean coveralls • Weld in a dry area • Floor should be clean of materials
Arc Welding • When Welding: • Your lead angle is 15 degrees • Hold electrode 1/8-1/4 inch away from plate • Weld should be 2 electrodes wide • Two 1/8 electrodes = ¼ inch wide weld
Arc Welding • When Welding: • If your electrode sticks, break it loose or shut off power • Do NOT remove your helmet until you’ve done the above • Use the exhaust system • Yell “cover” to start
