Color, Intro to Mirrors and Lenses. A note on Dispersion…. White light is light composed of light of many wavelengths, forming a spectrum When white light is sent through a prism, the light refracts Different frequencies are slowed more than others, thus they bend more than others.

A note on Dispersion… • White light is light composed of light of many wavelengths, forming a spectrum • When white light is sent through a prism, the light refracts • Different frequencies are slowed more than others, thus they bend more than others.
Color for Humans Rods (light/no light) Cones (sensitive to different frequencies)
Plane Mirror • Plane = flat
Spherical Mirrors • Part of Spheres • Concave (“cave”) • Convex
Image Distortion • Made larger or smaller = magnified • Right side up or upside down = upright or inverted

Today: • What do you see looking in the convex mirror? • What do you see looking in the concave mirror?
Today… • Find the focal length of your convex lens:____ • Look through each of your concave lenses at a distant object, and at a close object. Write what you see in terms of image size, and upright or inverted?
Today… • Choose One of the reflection problems and work it. Remember, 180 degrees in a straight line, and 90 degrees in a right angle.
Today… On the worksheet provided, use the law of reflection, θi = θr to show how the light bounces off a concave, and off a convex mirror. Your picture should look somewhat like this:
