Lowland Britain - is mainly rich plain, more often rolling than flat, broken by low limestone or chalk hills - hardly ever reaching 300 m above sea level The Cotswolds The Northampton Uplands The Lincoln Wolds The North York Moors The North Downs The Chilterns
Highland Britain • comprises all the mountainous parts of Great Britain and extensive uplands lying above 300 metres 1. The Highlads of Scotland • the highest mountains in the British Isles, are divided: • 1) The North-West Highlands • 2) The Grampian mountains • The highest peak – Ben Nevis -1.342 m (The Grampian mountains)
Highland Britain 2. The Southern Uplands • are low hills occupying the southern part of Scotland, separated from Highlands by the central plain of Scotland – The Central Lowlands – valleys of the rivers Clyde, Forth, Tay

Forest and Woodland • Woodlands occupy only about 8 per cent of the surface of the country • 1)Lowland: • has been cultivated and there are only few forests: • New Forest, Epping Forest, the Forest of Dean • 2)Highland: • many parts are treeless – • have only thin soil • The most common trees: • oak, beech, ash, pine, birch
