Courage in Censors

2. courage The universal topic that I’m going to be talking about is courage. Courage means the ability to do something that frightens one. A.D

Universal topic connection to story • The book Censors connects to the universal topic Courage because in Censors he was writing his letter and he didn’t know if the letter would get his friend in trouble. He then joined the Censorship Program just to make sure his letter would get through Mariana. There, he would go over every single letter to make sure it wouldn’t harm anybody and protect the gov’t. When he got promoted, he got to his letter. He disapproved his own letter and went to the head person to tell them about the letter. It took courage to tell on himself even though he knew what the consequences were going to be. That is courage. T.L

4. Text to text: Censors- The Voice Within by Christina Aguilera • In Censors the main character Juan, shows many signs of courage. An example of courage would be when he has to tell on the protestors and get them fired to make things better for him, and that takes a lot of courage. This relates to the song The Voice Within by Christina Aguilera because it states that you have to trust the voice within, like when the guy from Censors did, so he could get promoted. • K.L.

Text to Self: Censors- When I tried out for the Carolina Hurricanes Dance Team • In Censors Juan used courage to get his letter approved to get through to Mariana, he even ended up dying in the end just to get the letter through to her. This relates to my personal experience to when I tried out for the Carolina Hurricanes Storm Squad dance team over the Summer. Even though it was just a try out for a one time performance, I made the team and had to perform in front of the whole stadium during one of the games halftime, which took a lot of courage. We both had courage for something we loved. • K.L.

7. Text to self connection • In Censors, Juan told on himself because of his letter which took a lot of courage. He probably didn’t want to tell on himself which relates to me. I did something wrong and wasn’t proud of it. I knew what the consequences would be if I owned up to what I did. I decided to tell my mom which took a lot of courage. • T.L

9. Text to self connection. • When I had threw the remote at the wall by an accident, I had ended up telling on myself. In censors he ended up ratting on himself because he felt guilty about joining Censors just to send a letter to the girl he liked. So when the censor people found out he was lying they killed him . • Alia D.

10. Text to self connection • Talking in front of large groups takes a lot of courage. When I had to give a speech at my brother’s wedding I was really nervous. I knew I had to be calm, cool and courageous. If you are courageous when talking to groups of people you almost forget about what you feared and you can just focus on what has to be done. • R.R

11. conclusion • Courage is the ability to forget about the fears felt when doing something you get nervous about. Courage was shown in many of the stories we have read already this year. Imagine telling on yourself for your own letter that you wrote! • R.R
