BSU Presidential Platform 2009-10 • Academics • Work to achieve a 3.0 GPA per semester with he overall goal of achieving a 2.8 GPA as an organization • Continue our weekly study sessions and bring in professional tutors in core academic courses from E.S.S. • Incentives for students with the highest and most improved GPA at the end of the semester • Mentoring • Strengthen the mentor and mentee program • Mentor Training • Encourage all freshmen and transfer students to participate in the program • Monthly mentor and mentee socials and activities • Highlight the mentor and mentee of the year award • Social • Hold monthly socials to allow us to fellowship outside of BSU and create a stronger bond • Finance • Explore different fundraising opportunities to help pay for BSU expenses: Welcome Back Celebration, Big XII Conference and the Awards Ball • Raise at least $500.00 for the Martin Luther King Jr. bust and Coretta Scott King Garden of Engagement • More fiscal responsibility and transparency • Professional Development • Reinstate the monthly “Business Meetings” • Monthly workshops to help build our professional development • Cultural Awareness • Continue to host speakers, workshops and forums that allow us to educate ourselves and to showcase our culture to rest of the campus and community • Continue to hold successful culture programs such as Kwanza and Black History Month • Take trips to places of culture such as the Underground Railroad and Nicodemus, Kansas
