Guidance Problems • Causes of Behavioral Problems: • Overstimulation- over excited Ex: When children are with a large group of children • Breaks in Routines- something that let children know what to expect and when • If routines are not followed, children become confused • All children need consistent daily schedule • Quiet activities need to be followed by active activities
Causes of Behavioral Problems: • Noise affects children differently; some may have very sensitive ears and noise could upset them • By avoiding this problem caused by noise , you could control the volume of tapes, records, and CDS, pay attention to the volume of your own voice • Children also behave poorly when they wait for a long period of time • You can cut down waiting time by being prepared; manage your time wisely • Frustration is caused by children sometime feeling they are not in control. They began to feel defeated or discouraged • To control frustration, plan each day’s activities; developmentally appropriate
Causes of Behavioral Problems: • Stress is the body’s reaction to physical or emotional danger signals; takes from tension • Caused by negative or positive events • Family Stressors: • The influence of family can be positive or negative depending on how the family operates • Prolonging stress in early childhood can undermine healthy brain development • When family stability is disrupted it is observed in a child’s behavior.
Specific Problem Behaviors • Negativism • Stealing • Anger • Biting • Exploring the Body • Thumb sucking • Fear
Specific Problem Behaviors • Preschool children can be negative round the ages 2 and 3 years old; No is a child’s attempt at independence • Children don’t understand the difference between mine and yours; children age three and under are not consider as stealing • Anger draws attention to something that annoys the child; you can help that child learn to deal with anger • Biting is usually caused by being upset, biting is a temporary problem and is usually used when a child cant express themselves in words • When it comes to biting you need to respond quickly to prevent children from hurting each other • When it comes to stealing help children understand to respect others possessions • When it comes to children exploring the body , stay calm its normal. Use a positive approach when guiding young children; this could be done privately • Every child experience fear; imaginary fears are outgrown • Understanding children fear is important; help children by listening to what their afraid of
