Summary of Plant Operations TWG L. Waganer 12-13 December 2007 ARIES Project Meeting at GT Atlanta, GA
Purpose, Scope and Membersof ARIES-TNS Operations TWG Review Purpose: Develop operational plans and recommended R&D to mitigate risk of plant operation Scope: - Develop operational requirements for Operations, RAMI, and test campaigns - Consider IHMS implications on operations - Identify R&D items that could reduce operational risk and enhance availability - Develop Operations R&D projects and plans - Consider both test operations as well as normal operations - Translate operational requirements into design requirements Tentative Members: Les Waganer, Boeing, Lead Chuck Kessel, PPPL, Physics Alan Turnbull, GA, Physics Lee Cadwallander, INL, Reliability Said Abdel-Khalik, GIT, Regulatory Issues Rich Peipert-Jr, Boeing, Maintenance Tom Weaver, Boeing, I&C
Partial Draft of Plant Operations Completed Les Waganer developed and circulated a draft outline, suggested content, introduction (adapted from Mark Tillack’s Power Handling TWG draft report, and suggested goals and objectives. Lee Cadwallader contributed sections on (1) Plant Availability goal of 90%, (2) Safety and Environmental Standards, and (3) State of the Art Electrical Power Generating Plant Operations. Partially developed “Normal day-to-day control operations” Les provided some comments on staffing, degree of automation, and plant health monitoring and predictive capabilities. Lee added some discussion about man-machine interface and required operator actions on a typical plant operation. More work needed on “Normal Off-Line Operations (Distributed Control)” “Main Power Core Refurbishment” “Minor Scheduled Maintenance Operations (Power Core Non-Operational)“ “Unscheduled Major and Minor Maintenance Operations (Power Core Non-Operational Operations Draft Report
