Covey-Urgency and Importance “Priortize”
The Quadrants • We will illustrate on the board the four quadrants that Covey depicts
High Importance-High Urgency • Tackle these projects first
High Importance – Low Urgency • Set deadlines for completion • Get these projects worked into your daily routine
Low Importance – High Urgency • Find quick efficient ways to get this area done • Don’t get personally involved if possible • Delegate to an able “can do” assistant
Low Importance – Low Urgency • Busy or repetitious work, e.g. filing • Do it in small chunks/segments • Get someone else to do it • Don’t do it at all • Study it clearly, before putting off until tomorrow something you can do today • Maybe you can postpone indefinitely
Forcing Us to Prioritize • We can’t always run our lives the way we want to • Normally we are efficient-doing things right • Pressure/Crisis/Emergencies-we become effective-doing the right things. • Efficiency is foundation for survival • Effectiveness is the foundation for Success
