Project Team Discussions recommends the following; • Objectives: 1.To develop a strategy to commence learning and training networks in 100 cities and plant hundreds of churches in the next three years 2.To explore processes of utilising a grass roots church planting CD to reflect three holistic models of training, (ISI and CPP, Samaritan strategy, and incarnational church planting) in the learning networks across 100 cities and churches. The CD will be supported by picture story-telling booklets for each module of learning. 3.To critique a strategy to mobilise 5,250 new workers in 100 cities in the next 3 years (to 2009)

The recommendations from these discussions were; • Objective 1 • The strategy for 100 new cities and hundreds of new churches comes from the existing members desire to reach new cities and plant new churches. We recognise that the Holy Spirit has already been working to create this desire and envision learning networks in these cities and churches. Although we will pioneer movements in new cities we will also multiply the number of churches in the mega-cities.

  4. A refocus of the definition of a city.. • Many of the mega-cities are actually geographically vast and comprise many cities e.g. Manila has 26 cities, Delhi 5 etc. • Some of the least evangelised slums in these mega-cities such as Kolkata, need further evangelisation before sending workers to other cities in say West Bengal. Many more churches are needed in the slums of these mega-cities. The slums in these mega-cities have people from the other cities in the state/territory in them and movements to the other cities may become a natural by-product of mission-focussed church planting in the mega-cities.

  5. Church Planting Principles • Follow the relationship lines of the people we know and meet in the city, and this leads us to other suburbs and cities for church planting. Our pioneer church planting often results from the relatives of the people we know in the city and they lead us to their city of origin. • Slums tend to have a high proportion of migrant inhabitants, and this gives rise to church planting opportunities in their city of origin. • Incarnational training is the priority.The slum is the appropriate context for urban poor training.

  6. Re-designing the learning and training materials on the CD.. • The church planting CD uses and recommends readings that are not appropriate for the learning level of the grass-roots workers. Many of the power points are summary points, and cannot be used by local grass-roots trainers to train others. All materials on the CD for the grass roots learning networks need to be re-visited and made transferable in their training concepts. • Members of the Grass Roots Project Team have alternative models of training slum workers that are not reflected in the training CD. The CD should be revised to contain three models that reflect three contexts for urban poor ministry training. The CD should also have picture-graphic or comic format training manual based on a story-telling format.

  7. Is the goal of 3,500 trainees achievable in 3 years? • 100 cities and hundreds of churches start learning networks with an average of 20 pastor/worker trainees • That is 3,500 trainees • Half the trainees recruit 3 new workers = 5,250 new workers in the next three years.

  8. What does experience teach us? • In a training week we achieve the following result in the first year; • 25% of trainees recruit 5 or more new workers • 25% of trainees recruit 2-5 new workers • 50% of trainees do no new recruitment

  9. Re-adjusting our estimates and training strategies for new recruitment. • The 3,500 trainees will produce 5,250 new workers (1,750 trainees will recruit and average 3 new workers). We have a targeted 50% success rate for disciple-making.

  10. 2. a) Key members at this Consultation in the grass roots network need to re-visit the learning CD and submit recommendations for three transferable training modules that need to be incorporated into the Grass roots training and learning CD by the 28th February, 2007. The CD should be revised updated by the 30th June, 2007. Training materials at grass roots level need to be in word format if at all possible, as this is all the members have access too.

  11. 2b) The grass roots CD needs a picture graphic training manual that reflects a story-telling format for grass roots training in booklets that will be used over the three month period between learning network gatherings. One booklet will be given out for each module so the trainees can prepare for the topic at each learning network gathering.

  14. B) Databases? • Members can develop a database of trainees, workers, ministries, churches, in each city? Manila, Nairobi, Kampala, Kolkata, • By what date can we achieve this? Hyderabad – by 2008; • What cost will be involved and how will it be funded? Members will self-fund this process. • Databases should be accessed through the National Alliances. Leadership should decide on what gets disseminated to workers?
