  2. Carbohydrates • Are foods which give you energy. • Made of hydrocarbon molecules. • Is a way of saying "sugar." • Compounds have carbon atoms bonded. • Small or very large molecules • Two Types • Complex (starches) • Simple (sugars) • Sources: grains, fruits, veggies, candy, pasta

  3. Fats • Component in food. Some foods, including most fruits. • Kids, especially, need a certain amount of fat. • 30% of their daily calories from fat. • Lower-fat diets have been recommended for health. • Some are actually good for your health • Toddlers need to drink more milk for fat. • 3 types: • Saturated • Unsaturated • Trans • Sources: Fruits, veggies, candy.

  4. Protein • Your body uses the protein you eat. • To make hemoglobin (say: hee-muh-glow-bin) • Red blood cells that carries oxygen. • Moving your legs, moving your lungs. • Animal sources:and milk, is called complete. • Can get protein from veggies if a vegan. • Other proteins are used to build cardiac muscle • Your Heart needs the protein from food. • Sources: Fruits and veggies.

Fibre • Dietary fibre is part of all plant foods. • Four food groups such as: • Whole Grain, breakfast cereals • Whole grain, Bread • Fruit • Vegetables • Fibre intake should be increased gradually. • Important to minimize potential adverse side effects such as abdominal distress. • Fibre fights diseases. • Eliminate cholesterol by : • binding it in the digestive tract. • Sources: Fruits, bread

  6. Vitamins • That are found in foods we eat. • Body needs them to work properly. • Special role to play. For example: • Vitamin D in milk helps your bones • Vitamin A in carrots helps you see at night • Vitamin C in oranges helps your body heal if you get a cut • Vitamin B in leafy green vegetables help your body make protein and energy • Stored in the fat tissues in your body • Source: Sun, carrots, oranges Etc.

Dietary Minerals • Help your body grow, develop, and stay healthy. • The body uses minerals to perform different functions. • The two kinds of minerals are: macro minerals and trace minerals. • Macro means "large" in Greek • Calcium is the top macromineral when it comes to your bones. • This mineral helps build strong bones. • Which foods are rich in calcium? • dairy products, such as milk and cheese. • canned salmon and sardines with bones. • leafy green vegetables, such as broccoli • Sources: Veggies, dairy. Etc.

Water • the earth's surface consists of water. • but also in the ground and air. • same amount on earth when earth formed. • overall amount on our planet the same for two billion years. • The Human Body is made up of about 72% water. • There are two kinds of water; • salt water. • freshwater. • Water consists of two atoms: • 2 Hydrogen atoms. • Oxygen atoms. • Sources:Clean water streams, lakes and or rivers.
