Problem • There isn’t enough clean energy being produced in the world today, so can we improve the rates by adding lunar energy to the equation?
Question and Hypothesis • Question-Is there such thing as lunar energy • Hypothesis- If the solar panels get energy from the sun and the suns light reflects off the moon, then we should be able to use solar planes to produced energy
Research • Pros of Lunar Energy • Once created could produce more energy • Used as another energy source • Cons of Lunar Energy • Not been tested • Still a concept
Materials • NXT Mindstorm Kit/ Lego Kit 9688 (using the solar panel and energy reacting light) • Pen • Paper
Controls and Variables Variables Controls Time of testing. Materials used to test the power of the light bounced off of the moon. • Moon Phase. • Difference in power of energy directly from sun vs. the light bounced off of the moon. • Location of testing. • Earth’s position when testing.
Procedure • Gather Materials • Add lights to Solar Panel • Check if Solar Panel is working in the Day • Record what phase of the moon it is • Then at 7:00pm see if lights come on • Then at 8:00pm see if lights come on • Then at 9:00pm see if lights come on • Record results • Repeat Steps for 3 days
Conclusion • As I stated before my hypothesis was since the sun reflects off the moon, we should be able to use a solar panel to retrieve power from the moon. My tests went very well and had no problems finding the materials to do the test, however my hypothesis was invalid. According to what I did energy wasn't produced. Some things that could have affected this were the stage of the moon, earth’s orbital location, and others lights interfering with the panel.
