  1. Planning for DICOM20th year Celebration A Proposal

  2. Why an Anniversary ? • ACR-NEMA/DICOM first met on January 1983 • 2003 is the 20th anniversary of DICOM • Objectives are: • World-Wide Team Building in DICOM • Set and Re-energize vision • Appreciate ground covered and thank key contributors • Leverage to communicate about DICOM before RSNA

  3. What type of Anniversary (1) ? • September 2003 Committee meeting better than RSNA time. • Focus on DICOM Membership (internal). • Plan at an RSNA plenary, a more formal recognition with external communication (to be discussed by RSNA). • Organize around a 3 hours full membership vision forum. • Have a WG6, WG14, WG16, WG10 and others? Committee meetings around celebration. • Fund through a meeting attendance fee for WGs and Committee ($100 per day). • Invite Spouse/Partners ($100 flat fee)

  4. What type of Anniversary(2) ? • Not necessarily in Washington DC • A nice warm place would be attractive, as well as a place easy to reach from Japan and Europe. • Suggestion: Newport Beach near LA (where many of the DICOM meetings held along with SPIE). • Program should include fun activities, memorabilia events, and recognition for key contributors. • $18,000 budget for 100 persons. Funded by registration fees: quick estimate for $22,300: • WG6 (20p x $300) = $6000 - WG16 (8p x $100) = $800 • WG10 (20p x $100) = $2000 - Committee (40p x $100) = $4000 • WG14 (15p x $100) = $1500 - Forum Only (80p x $100) = $8000 • To focus resources on celebration, WG meetings should be hosted at nearby "for free" location.

  5. When ? • HL7 Sept 8-12, Memphis. • WG6 September 15-19 • Week-end of September 20 or 21 • 9/20 : 2:00 – 5:00pm Forum • 9/20 : 6:00 – 10:00pm Evening Celebration • 9/21 : Group Activity • Monday September 22 WG10 • Monday September 23 Committee • Wednesday September 24 WG14, WG 16 • Thursday September 25 WG 16, (NEMA SPC) • Other WGs ?

  6. Next Steps to Address • Decide Date - Now • Set a Celebration Team • Reserve Facility- In April • Draft program, and set-up specific teams • Fun activity (boating, surfing, fishing, hiking ...!!!!) • Define Criteria/Process for nominations, awards. • Produce early announcement by May 1st. • Invite Guest VIPs longtime supporters • Invite past members • No Press, but issue press statement for RSNA event
