  3. INCIDENT STATISTICS Caerphilly Unitary accounts for 12% of the total population served by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Source: Stats Wales Mid Year Estimates 2015

  4. Total Incidents Attended In 2013/14 to 2015/16

  5. Fires Attended • Caerphilly has experienced a 2.89% reduction in fires attended over the past three years. Total fires attended did reduce from 935 to 750 (-19.79%) in 2014/15 but increased from 750 to 908 (+21.07%) in 2015/16. Deliberate fires reduced by 3.96% and accidental fires have increased by 1.69%

  6. Accidental Dwelling Fires • Accidental dwelling fires have increased by 9.52% over the past 3 years in Caerphilly. The trend for South Wales as a whole has seen an increase of 0.29%.

  7. Fatalities and Injuries • Caerphilly has experienced 2 fire fatalities during the past 3 years. • Whilst any fatality is too many the numbers experienced in South Wales are low and trends are difficult to predict. • Caerphilly’s overall percentage share of injuries in Accidental dwelling fires for South Wales has risen over the past 3 years. In 2013/14 it was 11.11% and this rose to 14.29% in 2015/16.

  8. Special Service Calls (SSC) and Road Traffic Collisions (RTCs) • Caerphilly has experienced a 13.39% decrease in other SSC calls. Their percentage share for South Wales has fallen from 10.27% to 9.23%. • There has been a 4.72% increase in Road Traffic Collisions (RTCs) over the past three years.

  9. COMMUNITY SAFETY AND PARTERSHIPS CHANGING LIVES THROUGH

  10. Home Fire Safety The Home Fire Safety department are responsible for the targeting and organisation of Home Fire Safety Checks (HFSCs) along with Group Talks. In 2015/2016 a total of 2,521 targeted HFSCs were delivered by 5 Fire and Rescue Stations situated in Caerphilly, Home Safety Practitioners and External Partner Agencies. The department also has close links with a number of external agencies in the area such as Alzheimer's Association, Housing Associations, British Red Cross, Social Services, Ystrad Mynach Hospital, Brookland Adult Training Centre, United Welsh Housing

  11. Fire Crime Unit The Fire Crime Unit are responsible for the organisation of these activities in the area. Fire Crime Unit 'Pod Activity' Operation Streetwise - Outreach Programme Hi Viz Patrols Abandoned Cylinder Retrievals PCSO Training Days Operation BANG 61 Fire Crime activities were carried out in Caerphilly during 2015/2016 plus an additional 69 ‘SAVA’ referrals carried out by Operational Personnel. The department also has close links with a number of external agencies in the area such as SW Police, Gwent Police, Environment Agency, Trading Standards Agency, U/A Waste Management

  12. Road Safety The Road Safety Team are responsible for the organisation of these activities in Caerphilly 47 of which were conducted in 2015/2016 engaging with 999 people. Domino - (Multi Agency Delivery for young drivers) Megadrive - (Multi Agency safety messages organised by U/A Road Safety Officers Options Seatbelts - (SW Police initiative pulling in drives not wearing seat belts & given the option of receiving a road safety message at local station or receiving fixed penalty notice) Biker Down - (Scene of accident awareness and training for motorcyclists) Drink Drive Rehabilitation Courses - (Drink Drivers referred to IAM DDRC by a Court order) Revolution (previously called Licence to Kill)- (Pre-Drivers with Previous Convictions for Vehicle Crime or identified as likely hood of involvement) Busby - (Observing motorists unlawfully using mobile phones whilst driving. No further action taken by SWFRS - details passed to SWP) Ford Focus Cruize - (Ford Focus ST car used as a tool to engage with our most at risk group of pre & young drivers & 'Cruisers' on their 'home ground' to enable safety messages and deliveries to be carried out)

  13. Education Services The Education Services Team are responsible for the organisation of these activities in the area , 116 of which were conducted in 2015/2016. • Grass Arson School Talks • Key Stage 1,2,3 and 4 Curriculum Deliveries At these events we engaged with over 3,865 people

Youth Services The Youth Services Team are responsible for the organisation of these activities in the area, 36 of which were conducted in 2015/2016 engaging with over 508 people. • Crimes & Consequences • Phoenix Youth Inclusion Programmes The department also has close links with a number of external agencies in the area such as: • Rathbone • Communities 1st • Caerphilly Youth Offending Service • Alternative Education Provisions • Heolddu Comprehensive • Crosskeys Drop in Centre • Senghenydd Drop in Centre • Abertwsswg Community Centre • Cwm Rhymney Comprehensive
