Developing the culture of Teaching and Learning at Queens’.
E N D
Developing the culture of Teaching and Learning at Queens’ Our core purpose as educators is to get the best out of everyone we teach. We achieve that by being the best we can be as teachers, like our students, that comes from us being the best learners about our own teaching practices and that of others. As self - reflective professionals we all know intuitively the things that we are good at and the things that we could be better at as teachers. At Queens’ every teacher should be responsible for and actively involved in their professional development and support the development of others.
Create a culture of continuous improvement • Responsibilities of teachers • To continue to improve classroom skill (over a career?) • To focus the improvement on ideas supported by evidence • Responsibilities of leaders • Create the expectation for continuous improvement • Keep the focus on what is likely to improve achievement • Provide support • Encourage risk taking
CPD is not about tricks or tips ( even if you are given some today!) • It is about us achieving the vision we have for what we want our lessons and teaching to be and what we want our students to be like and be able to do and know by the time they leave us. • Elements from todays sessions that can be developed and collaborated on through the year should move us closer to the students at Queens’ being confident resilient learners who take responsibility for their own learning

Changes to support the development of teaching and learning; • The removal of lesson judgements to allow more reflective and developmental lesson observations to take place. • The creation and recruitment of the Pedagogy group, the Action Research group and the Teacher Led Development work group to support research into aspects of classroom practice and inform and lead the provision of CPD at Queens’. • The creation of Queens’ TALES, website and twitter to help share ideas about teaching and learning. • The first ever Queens’ T&L marketplace to celebrate and share good practice and ideas about teaching and learning for all staff, by the staff. • Work sampling, support for peer observation, coaching and mentoring.
