Be the Parent Who is Part of Their Good Athletic Memories • Release your child to the whole experience as soon as possible (Releasing is trusting their athletic destiny to them instead of trying to control it) • Model behaviors we expect them to exemplify • Be aware of the your words, reactions and body language (There is a fine line between involvement and interference, and between encouragement and pressure) • Stop hovering and wanting everything to go perfectly (The less you give advice, the more likely they are to ask for it) • Four roles – you can only be one (Players, coaches, spectators, and officials) (Proactive Coaching by Bruce Brown)
Ledger Mentality We are held to a higher standard. • It is about who and what we represent! • We don’t only represent our school, our team, and our community. Most importantly we represent our Savior – Jesus Christ. • That is a challenge and a tremendous responsibility. • We may be the only Bible that some people will ever read. • In order for us to be ambassadors for Christ our athletic program must be guided by the Christian principles that God has given us in His word. • Reading God’s word on a regular basis will remind us of all the wonderful things that Jesus has done for us. It will be the motivation and encouragement that is daily needed to display God pleasing behaviors. • Our athletic program also exists to help our athletes mature in their Christian faith. It is an excellent opportunity for all of us to learn how to live our faith.

Booster Club – Concessions • We will need help with concessions for 5th & 6th Grade Football and for 7th & 8th Grade Football on the following dates: (We need two people for each time period) • 5th Grade-August 17th, 24th, September 14th & 21st (8:30-10:30) • 6th Grade-August 24th, September 14th & 21st (10:30-12:30); October 12th (8:00-10:00) • 7th Grade-September 10th, 17th, & 24th (4:00-6:00) • 8th Grade- September 10th, 17th, & 24th (6:00-8:00) Please sign up in the Cafeteria before you leave! Please sign up for chain gang as well. (3 per game)
Co-Curricular Code of Conduct Handbook • Purpose of the athletic program (pp. 1-2) - Vision, Mission, and Core Values (Faith, Learning, Respect, Leadership, Community, Responsibility) - Objectives – Provide an opportunity for spiritual, academic, physical and emotional growth 2)Academic Standards (pp. 3-5) - Academic Ineligibility(Determined at the end of each quarter) - Academic Dishonesty (Plagiarizing or cheating) - Attendance Policy (Must be in attendance in class the entire day)
Academic Ineligibility • Must pass ALL classes • With an incomplete grade, the student is still eligible, unless the incomplete turns into a failure • Ineligibility period • 2nd, 3rd, & 4th quarter - 8 school days for an F in one class, 15 school days if you receive an F in two or more classes. • Students that are ineligible will not be dismissed early from classes.

Concussion Information Please take the time to read the document entitled “Concussion Information – When in Doubt, Sit them Out” It is extremely important to educate yourselves on this extremely important topic. If you ever have any questions concerning concussions, please contact our trainer Tyler Schwarz. He should always be the first step in determining whether the athlete has a concussion.

Participation Requirements for SMSA AthleticsThe following must be completed before participating in practice: • Page 1 – Liability Waiver, Code of Conduct, Eligibility • Page 2 - Alternate Year or Physical Permit Physical – Typically Grades 5, 7, 9, 11 Alternate Year–Typically Grades 6, 8, 10, 12 • Page 3 – Concussion Acknowledgement • Page 4 – Medical Information and Emergency Consent
Fall Athletic Teams • 7th-8th Grade Girls’ Basketball – Coach Mitch Redig (mredig@smsacademy.org) The first practice is in Baker gym on August 28th from 3:45-5:30. • 6th-8th Grade Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country – Coach Sarah Brinkley (smkbrinkley@gmail.com). The first practice is at Buttermilk Park on August 6th from 4:00-5:00. • 5th-8th Grade Cheerleading – Coach Julia Schneider (schneiderj@smsacademy.org) The first practice is August 18th in Baker gym from 8:00-9:30 AM. • 5th-6th Grade Girls’ Volleyball – Coaches David Maruska (davidmaruska191@gmail.com), Aundrea Coon (aundreacoon@Hotmail.com), and Kyle Krusick (kyle.krusick4@gmail.com).
