  1. Factual TV presentation BBC News at Six

  2. News Report • I am going to be analysing a News report from BBC News at six that has been recorded onto a DVD, in my PowerPoint I am going to include screenshots Explaining different News values, different technical codes, the Narrative structure and more.

  3. Narrative Structure • The News Presenter in this news report is George Alagiah. At the beginning of the report he addresses the viewers by talking straight into the camera, he starts off by explaining the headlines, this is seen as ‘Hard News’ because the urgent and important news has been overviewed at the beginning. • In this News report the ‘Soft news’ is towards the end of the programme, these reports are not shown on the headlines as they are sometimes not relevant to Britain or to the economy but related to something not as important but still effects people. The soft news in this report is about coral reef’s being damaged.

  4. Narrative Structure • In the news report explaining the floods in Queensland, Australia, The reporter (Nick Bryant) answers some of the Who, What, When, Where and why questions. • He explains when there will be more flooding expected, where people as escaping or staying put. Who is helping them, he explains the Australian Prime Minister has said there is more danger to come as well. Lastly he describe what has happened to some residents and interviews them to get more detail.

  5. News values Reference to Threshold - http://www.btinternet.com/~owenst/NewsValues.html • Threshold – One of the main Headlines in the News report is the disaster of the Queensland floods in Australia, This story is considered as a Threshold because it has a huge impact on the people living in Queensland, it has destroyed their homes it has destroyed many resources and may be considered relevant to the Human interest news value because it includes people and viewers watching the programme want to know what has happened to them. • Personalisation - Another main headline in this News report is the Fraud committed by Eric Illsley. This report is considered as Personalisation because it is focused on one particular person and may also be seen as another Human interest story.

  6. Techniques used • Vox pop – A vox pop is an interview that takes place between a resident of a local town or city relevant to the news taking place. In one of the main headlines a woman is interviewed about the fraud committed by Eric Illsley. • At the beginning of this Vox pop there is a GV, a GV is a General view shot that films an area where something is taking place e.g. A High street. The GV in this report is of a local street in Barnsley, this shot is to set the scene of where the Vox pop is taking place.
