Reproduction video notes • We will watch a video to review types of reproduction and cells TEk 7.14 Warm up: How fast is the plane traveling from Paris to London
Gametes: a mature sexual reproductive cell having a single set of unpaired chromosomes • Diploids: A cell or an organism consisting of two sets of chromosomes • Homologous: A condition denoting to the pair of chromosomes having corresponding genes for a particular trait or characteristic
Chromosomes: a structure with in the cell that bears the genetic material as a threadlike linear strand of DNA bonded to various protiens in the cell.
Mitosis is the process by which a eukaryotic cell separates the chromosomes in its cell nucleus into two identical sets in two nuclei • Meiosis is the type of cell division by which germ cells (eggs and sperm) are produced. Meiosis involves a reduction in the amount of genetic material
Recall: sexual reproduction results in more genetic variations • Summary: what is the main difference between meiosis and mitosis? • Out: create a chart that shows the advantages and disadvantages of sexual and asexual reproduction
