CFD Using CMARC/Postmarc • Method for Modeling Rocket • Obtain stage length/diameter data from MAT code cases • Calculate wing/fin span/chord values • (wing for air launch case only) • Pick appropriate airfoil section for wing/fins • (currently using NACA 0012) • Edit Excel workbook that creates input files for CMARC with appropriate rocket dimensions • Excel workbook format created by Liaquat Iqbal (Ph. D. candidate, AAE 490A TA) AAE 450 Spring 2008 Aerothermodynamics
CFD Using CMARC/Postmarc • 3-D CFD case takes ~13 seconds to run • Bottom Line: Faster CFD results for multiple launch configurations Future Work • Work with MAT teams to collect rocket configuration dimensions • Work with Liaquat Iqbal on modifying Excel workbooks for different launch configurations • Run cases in CMARC/Postmarc Example Postmarc Output (Glider at 10 deg AoA) AAE 450 Spring 2008 Aerothermodynamics
