Summer 2019! It’s about time!
Summertime, summertime, sum sum summertime… Summer means outdoor fun! So it is important to keep some safety tips in mind so that your summer can be fantastic.
Let the sunshine be your friend! • Apply sunscreen with a SPF 15 or higher at least 30 minutes before going outside, even on cloudy days. Reapply every 2 hours! • Sunburns do not happen only on sunny days; up to 80% of the sun’s UV rayscan penetrate the skin even on cloudy days. • Look for sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays.
And then there are the bugs… • Use insect repellents to guard against ticks, which can carry Lyme Disease, and mosquitoes. • Never leave stagnant pools of water around the house. Pools of water can serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. • Avoid using scented soaps or perfumes.Bees and other critters will be more likely to show up (and sting you!)
When Operating something with wheels… Wear your helmet! Enough said. Do NOT get in a car with someone who has been using drugs/alcohol. Wear all safety gear.
Swimming safety Never swim in an area that is posted as “no swimming”. Watch out for each other! Especially younger kids and weaker swimmers. Be aware of possible hazards; rocks, broken glass, animals. Learn CPR. Know the dangers of secondary drowning, which can happen on dry land, hours after a child inhales water into the lungs.
